Our fresh Joomla install needs Configuration and Design help (Elgin, IL)

We have two separate websites that we are looking to convert over to Joomla 1.5. Looking for guidance on using and designing for this tool.

Our current web-hosting package has the Joomla CMS installed and our site domains are registered and ready to go. My lack of experience in working with Joomla is proving difficult to transfer over information from the current Wordpress.com and HTML/FrontPage based sites.

Looking to use the site to organize:

* Event Dates

* Sign Up Volunteers

* Update the Public on the latest news/progress

* Include weekly articles/stories of interest

* There will also be some static-pages with information about locations/hours/driving directions, etc.

* Links to Twitter, Facebook and Flickr feeds...

We are a non-profit working with all volunteer hours and minimal donations from the public to keep the momentum going for our projects and causes. There may be some compensation (under $500) available to an independent individual, not to web-firms. If there is a Student or Professional looking to boost their Portfolio and help us learn how to manage the CMS on our own, even better!
